Purpose
This paper defines the white lettering on brown directional signs required for Portishead. The result will be that a tourist or visitor coming to Portishead will be guided by a series of easily identifiable signs to the major attractions and points of interest in the area.
Scope
This proposal is made by the Portishead Chamber of Tourism so that it can be used to judge propsals that mght be put forward by other tourism groups.
Approach
The original signage plan was developed over several years and was implemented in a haphazard manner. Portishead Chamber of Tourism is now putting forward an all encompasing plan with significant extensions and enhancements to the old. Two of the most important departures from previous plans are the inclusion of the Esplanade and the Victorian High Street as identifiable attractions.
The new plan supports the vision of Portishead as a place of natural beauty and refined taste, and works to project that image to visitors. As the people of Portishead do not wish to have their parks and places of natural beauty spoiled by commercial development, signage makes a clear distinction of the parks and recreation areas being in one place and the commercial public amenities being in another, the Victorian High Street Shops.
