Trinity Lighthouse Service has decided to switch off the light. They have not decided the future of the structure. Some internal fittings will be removed either as spares or for safety reasons. They may decide to maintain the structure as a day mark or demolish it.
It is important that the structure stays where it is and, if need be, the local community should establish a trust to keep the appearance of the light. We have few examples of Victorian engineering left in Portishead and the light reflects our seafaring history.
A room has been booked for a meeting at the Folk Hall at 7:30pm on Monday September 27th. Let us have plans in place should the light be threatened with demolition.
